# Checking for access

Before attempting to move laterally to a host, access should be validated first as a test. On domain joined systems, we need to have administrator privileges in order to access computers remotely.

One way to validate for access is the SMB mount of C$:

```
ls \\IP\C$
```

If access is allowed, we may be able to move laterally to the machine.
